Toy Library Federation
of New Zealand
On the weekend of 25th to 27th June this year, over 200 toy library volunteers and librarians gathered at Lincoln University for 2010 volunteer training weekend.
Over the weekend we all attended workshops and heard speakers on everything from displaying toys to running an incorporated society or charitable trust.
Key note speakers included Lucie Ozanie from Canterbury University who has been conducting some very interesting research into the importance of toy libraries and why people use them.
Saturday morning after the AGM, well known speaker Allison Mooney had the delegates in stitches with her take on personality types. Alison was informative and light hearted which was a great combination on a busy weekend.
If you were not able to be at the weekend, then check out Allison's website: www.personalityplus.co.nz or read her book Pushing The Right Buttons
She also has a link that has a video clip of one of her motivational speeches: http://alliemooney.com/keynote_speaker_video_2.htm
During the Saturday there were a range of optional workshops. Notes from these workshops will be available on our website shortly, or by contacting email@example.com
Saturday evening, Dick Taylor, gold medal winner at the 1970 Commonwealth games in Christchurch shared his philosophy on winning with us all, as our after dinner speaker. The theme for the evening was Red and Black and the delegates showed their imagination with a huge range of different red and black costumes. Formal attire, football, rugby, dancing girls, ladybirds, casual dress, all in the red and black theme made for a stunning visual effect when you walked into the dining hall.
The weekend finished on Sunday with a breakfast with the focus on sharing information on practical issues facing toy libraries and a bus tour round a number of Christchurch toy libraries.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend the success it was. Start saving now for our 2012 National Training Weekend which will be held in Wellington.
